Out of this whole scheme of project this one is my favorite. There is so many things throughout his poems that I can relate to on such a personal level. If you ever have a chance, I would reccomend watching this for an inner look on who you are.
Koyczan starts with a poem that is full of hilarious stories with unintentional jokes. When he was younger he didn't know the difference between 'pork chops' and 'karate chops'. One day he climbed up a tree and fell which was followed by a throbbing bruise along his arm. Avoiding his grandma and what she had to say, people at school noticed. That day he was pulled into an office where they question the bruises and asked, "Is everything ok at home?", "How did you get those bruises?". And innocently he answered, "My Grandma gives me lots of 'karate chops'.". This was just the start of his life when he started hating pork chops. I think he included this to have a sense of comedic relief after a very emotional poem.
Then Shane Koyczan moves on to another poem where he describes children today. How afraid they are to speak up and just be themselves. Not knowing that there is something great out there for them. Girls looking at models and hurt themselves for not looking like them.
The way kid's minds grow up to be can be dangerous for them. But that's because the world has implanted in their brain that they're not good enough; that they have to be a certain way to be accepted.
Who I am has been hurt by words and I understand where these bullied children come from. And the things Shane Koyczan has to speak about is crucial for everyone to hear. Hurting people for your personal satisfactory is cruel and is not acceptable.
